Getting Started

Shroom and Gloom Beginner Guide

Learn the double-deck roguelike loop and the safest way to handle your first dungeon runs. Focus on survival, efficient exploration, and growing a small set of useful cards.

Shroom and Gloom separates dungeon exploration from combat with two connected card decks. Strong runs come from spending exploration resources carefully, keeping enough healing available, and repeatedly improving cards that already support your main damage plan instead of spreading upgrades across everything.

1

Learn the Two-Deck Loop

Your exploration deck handles movement and decisions while travelling through the fungal dungeon, while your combat deck takes over when an encounter begins. Treat both decks as parts of the same run because exploration choices determine how prepared you are for the next fight.

Do not spend every useful exploration option immediately; keep resources available for dangerous sections ahead.

2

Keep the Combat Deck Focused

Build around a small group of attacks, weapons, healing tools, and cards that support the same combo. A focused deck makes it easier to draw the cards needed to finish enemies before they deal too much damage.

Adding a card is not automatically an upgrade if it makes your strongest combinations harder to draw.

3

Protect Your Health Early

Health carries between encounters, so unnecessary damage during an easy battle can make the next room much harder. Use healing when it prevents a run from entering a dangerous low-health state rather than saving every recovery option indefinitely.

Winning efficiently is usually better than taking extra turns just to create a larger combo.

4

Grow Cards With a Purpose

One of the game's central systems lets cards become increasingly powerful during a run. Concentrate growth on cards that you expect to play repeatedly, especially reliable damage pieces or effects that improve an entire combo.

A heavily developed core card is usually more useful than several unrelated cards receiving minor improvements.

5

Use Weapons as Combo Engines

Weapons can become important parts of your damage plan instead of functioning only as isolated attacks. Combine weapon effects with supporting cards and scaling effects so that individual turns build toward increasingly large damage chains.

Choose additional cards based on whether they strengthen your existing weapon or attack plan.

6

Balance Exploration and Greed

Dungeon exploration offers opportunities to improve your run, but pushing deeper while damaged or poorly prepared increases the chance of losing everything. Evaluate your health, deck quality, and available recovery before taking another risky opportunity.

A smaller reward that preserves health can be more valuable than an aggressive choice that leaves the next combat encounter unsafe.

7

Build Toward Bigger Combos

Once your deck has reliable attacks, healing, and card growth, start adding effects that multiply or extend your existing damage sequence. Shroom and Gloom rewards builds that turn several compatible cards into increasingly extreme chains.

Establish consistency first, then chase the game's huge late-run damage potential.

Card Rankings

Shroom and Gloom Cards Tier List

Rank the most valuable card roles by consistency, scaling potential, and usefulness across a full run. Cards that support repeated growth and reliable combos provide the strongest foundations.

Shroom and Gloom is built around cards that can grow far beyond their starting strength, so long-term synergy matters more than judging a card only by its initial effect. The strongest choices are generally the ones that provide reliable damage, sustain, or scaling while directly supporting the rest of your deck.

S

Run Defining

Scaling Damage Cards

Combat

Repeated growth can turn a reliable attack into the centerpiece of an entire run, allowing later encounters to be cleared with increasingly large damage.

Combo Multipliers

Combat

Effects that amplify an already-developed attack or damage chain become exceptionally strong once the deck has a consistent engine.

Reliable Healing Cards

Combat

Healing protects accumulated progress between encounters and gives aggressive scaling builds enough time to reach their strongest turns.

A

Excellent

Weapon Cards

Combat

Weapons provide strong foundations for focused builds and become much more valuable when the rest of the deck is selected around their damage pattern.

Card Growth Effects

Utility

Growth effects improve the long-term ceiling of key cards and are especially valuable when concentrated on a small, frequently played core.

Efficient Exploration Cards

Exploration

Strong exploration effects help preserve resources and reach additional opportunities without weakening preparation for upcoming battles.

B

Strong With Synergy

Setup Cards

Combat

Setup effects can enable enormous turns, but they need compatible payoff cards and enough survivability to justify spending time preparing.

Situational Utility Cards

Utility

These effects can solve specific problems efficiently but become less attractive when they do not contribute to the deck's primary plan.

Risk-Reward Exploration Cards

Exploration

They can accelerate a strong run but are less dependable when health or other resources are already under pressure.

C

Niche

Low-Synergy Damage Cards

Combat

Extra attacks can dilute a developed deck when they do not benefit from its existing weapon, growth, or combo effects.

Redundant Utility Cards

Utility

Multiple cards performing similar minor roles can reduce draw consistency without adding enough power to justify the deck space.

Builds & Combos

Shroom and Gloom Best Builds and Combos

Build around focused card interactions instead of collecting unrelated effects. These archetypes cover safe progression, weapon-focused damage, scaling, and high-risk mega combos.

The game's unlimited card-growth philosophy allows a successful strategy to snowball into extremely large numbers. The best builds start with one dependable engine, improve the cards involved in that engine repeatedly, and only add new cards when they directly increase damage, survivability, or combo consistency.

Balanced Growth Build

Beginner

Core Cards

  • Reliable attack cards
  • Card growth effects
  • Healing
  • Small number of utility cards

Strategy: Choose one dependable attack as the main growth target, maintain enough healing to survive mistakes, and avoid filling the deck with unnecessary alternatives.

Combo: Grow a core attack repeatedly, support it with compatible damage effects, then use healing and utility to stay alive while its damage continues increasing.

Strength: Consistent progression with few complicated setup requirements.

Weapon Combo Build

Intermediate

Core Cards

  • Weapon cards
  • Weapon-supporting effects
  • Damage scaling
  • Healing

Strategy: Commit to a weapon-focused plan and prioritize cards that make the same damage engine stronger rather than adding multiple unrelated win conditions.

Combo: Establish the weapon, improve the cards interacting with it, then chain supporting effects into increasingly powerful combat turns.

Strength: Strong combination of consistency and high damage potential.

Infinite Growth Build

Intermediate

Core Cards

  • Repeatable growth
  • One or two primary damage cards
  • Deck consistency tools
  • Survival cards

Strategy: Exploit the game's ability to keep growing cards by concentrating improvements into a very small number of frequently used effects.

Combo: Keep increasing the same core cards until ordinary attacks become oversized finishers, while preserving enough sustain to survive during the buildup.

Strength: Extremely high late-run scaling without requiring a large deck.

Mega Damage Chain

Advanced

Core Cards

  • High-growth attack
  • Combo multipliers
  • Setup effects
  • Damage amplifiers

Strategy: Trade some early consistency for effects that multiply one another once the complete engine is assembled.

Combo: Prepare the scaling pieces first, activate supporting effects in sequence, and finish the chain with the attack receiving the largest accumulated bonuses.

Strength: Produces the spectacular oversized damage turns encouraged by the game's combo system.

Survival Combo Build

Beginner

Core Cards

  • Healing
  • Efficient attacks
  • Controlled card growth
  • Defensive utility

Strategy: Prioritize staying healthy while slowly improving a compact damage package. This sacrifices some maximum combo potential for better run stability.

Combo: Use efficient attacks for routine encounters, heal before health becomes critical, and steadily grow the same damage cards across the dungeon.

Strength: Forgiving choice for learning encounters and preserving long runs.

Glass Cannon Growth Build

Advanced

Core Cards

  • Maximum damage scaling
  • Combo multipliers
  • Minimal defensive cards
  • Aggressive exploration choices

Strategy: Invest heavily in damage and growth while accepting much less room for mistakes. The goal is to defeat enemies before defensive resources become necessary.

Combo: Stack growth and multipliers onto a primary attack, then end encounters with a large chain before incoming damage becomes a serious problem.

Strength: Very high ceiling for players comfortable managing risk.

Combat Deck

Shroom and Gloom Combat Deck Guide

Build a combat deck that draws its strongest interactions consistently. Balance damage, weapons, healing, scaling, and combo pieces without overcrowding the deck.

Combat in Shroom and Gloom rewards concentrated synergy. Because cards can keep growing during a run, a compact deck built around a few compatible effects can become far stronger than a larger collection of individually useful cards.

Choose a Primary Damage Plan

FoundationVery High

Decide which attack or weapon interaction will do most of the work before adding multiple supporting cards.

New cards should strengthen the main damage engine or solve a clear weakness.

Keep Enough Direct Damage

AttacksVery High

Your deck still needs dependable attacks that can handle ordinary encounters without requiring a long setup sequence.

Maintain attacks that remain useful even when the ideal combo is not drawn.

Grow Your Best Cards

ScalingVery High

The game allows cards to reach increasingly extreme power, making repeated investment in your strongest pieces an important part of deck development.

Concentrate growth instead of distributing every upgrade evenly.

Add Healing Before You Need It

SustainHigh

Health lost in one encounter can threaten the rest of the run, so healing belongs in the deck before difficult battles begin appearing.

Carry enough recovery to stabilize the run without filling the deck with cards that do not advance combat.

Build Around Weapons

WeaponsHigh

When a weapon becomes part of your main plan, select later cards according to how well they interact with that weapon and its supporting effects.

One developed weapon strategy is more consistent than several unrelated weapon packages.

Limit Setup Cards

CombosHigh

Setup effects become powerful when they lead directly into a major payoff, but too many setup cards can leave a hand unable to finish an enemy.

Every setup card should have a clear payoff that appears frequently enough to justify its place.

Avoid Unnecessary Deck Bloat

ConsistencyHigh

Adding cards increases the number of possible draws and can make the strongest pieces of your build appear less reliably.

Skip cards that are merely acceptable when they do not improve the main strategy.

Scale Into Large Damage Chains

Late RunMedium

Once the deck is stable, combine developed attacks with amplifiers and supporting effects to create the enormous damage chains central to Shroom and Gloom's combat.

Secure consistency and survival first, then increase the combo ceiling.

Exploration Guide

Shroom and Gloom Explore Deck Guide

The Explore Deck controls how you move through the dungeon and improve your run between battles. Use it to find resources, modify cards, expand your options, and prepare before committing to dangerous encounters.

Shroom and Gloom separates exploration from combat with a dedicated Explore Deck. Good exploration decisions strengthen the Fight Deck before harder encounters, so spending exploration actions on permanent card improvements and useful discoveries is usually more valuable than taking unnecessary risks.

1

Use the Explore Deck Between Battles

Exploration cards are separate from the Fight Deck and are used while travelling through the dungeon. Play them to interact with the environment, discover routes, and create opportunities to strengthen the rest of the run.

2

Prioritize Card Modification

Take opportunities that improve or modify cards you expect to keep using. Strengthening a reliable core of combat cards gives more value across repeated encounters than spreading upgrades across cards that rarely reach your hand.

3

Look for New Weapons and Abilities

Exploration can open access to additional weapons, cards, and abilities. New tools can change the direction of a build, so compare them with your current Fight Deck instead of automatically taking every new option.

4

Build Around Synergy

Choose exploration rewards that reinforce what your deck already does well. Weapons, upgraded cards, healing options, and utility become much stronger when they support the same combat plan.

5

Prepare Before Dangerous Encounters

Use remaining exploration opportunities to improve survivability before bosses and other difficult fights. Entering an encounter with a cleaner deck, stronger cards, and enough healing is safer than saving every resource for later.

Progression

Shroom and Gloom Foresight and Progression Guide

Foresight gives players ways to influence later attempts instead of treating every run as completely isolated. Progression gradually expands the strategies, cards, and characters available for future runs.

Shroom and Gloom combines roguelike resets with progression that opens additional possibilities over time. Foresight-related choices are most useful when they unlock options that improve many future runs rather than solving only one temporary problem.

Combat Guide

Shroom and Gloom Bosses and Enemies Guide

Enemies become more demanding as you travel deeper toward The Gloom. Surviving consistently depends on controlling incoming damage, maintaining healing, and keeping the Fight Deck focused.

Shroom and Gloom fills its dungeon with hostile fungal creatures and increasingly dangerous encounters. Because combat uses a dedicated Fight Deck, preparation matters as much as individual card plays: weak cards, poor healing decisions, and unfocused upgrades become increasingly costly deeper into a run.

Standard Fungal Enemies

Use ordinary encounters to learn your deck's damage output without spending every healing resource. Remove threats efficiently and preserve stronger consumable or recovery options for fights where incoming damage is harder to avoid.

Multi-Enemy Encounters

When several enemies are active, reduce the number of attackers as quickly as possible. Focused damage that removes one threat is often safer than spreading damage while every enemy remains able to attack.

High-Damage Encounters

Prioritize defensive cards, healing, and reliable damage instead of slow combinations that require several perfect draws. A compact Fight Deck makes important survival cards easier to reach when pressure increases.

Biome Bosses

Treat biome bosses as deck checks. Upgrade your most dependable attacks beforehand, avoid carrying unnecessary weak cards, and enter with enough health to survive turns where your ideal cards do not appear.

Late-Run Encounters

Deep runs punish inconsistent decks. Concentrate upgrades on cards that already support your main strategy and avoid adding cards simply because they are new when they reduce the chance of drawing your strongest tools.

Healing Decisions

Healing is most valuable when it prevents a promising run from ending. Recover before major encounters when health is already low rather than relying on a perfect combat draw to avoid all incoming damage.
